Academic Literacy Enhancement Online Programme 2023 (37)

From 2 January to 16 February, I participated in the Cambridge Supervision Programme for nearly two months and it was very rewarding. Not only did I read English literature in the relevant fields, but I also acquired academic writing skills. This will be of great help to my future research in related fields. I also learned about the tutorial system in the UK and how philosophy students are trained in philosophy.

This program course was moderately difficult and well-structured. The professor prepared each module carefully, giving us a syllabus and reading assignments, which are advanced in every course. The professor also made every effort to answer the questions we asked in each class. In particular, the professor gave me a lot of sounds and effective advice on dissertation supervision, which helped me a lot.

The lessons were well organized by the teachers of the institution. Before and after each class, the people in charge promptly reminded us of any announcements. They were also patient in answering any questions about the course. There was a professor who taught us a course on academic writing. I learned a lot about how to write in English, academic research methods, publishing techniques, and more in this course.

I still think there is room for improvement in the curriculum. For example, in the critical thinking presentation session, our group discussion focus on Longtermism was not designed to talk too much about the philosophical theory aspect, but more about the economic and sociological aspects. But the professor didn't talk much about this. The syllabus given before each class was not clear, and some questions were not answered due to time constraints.
